Gary C. Bhojwani is chairman of Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life®) and a member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE, Insurance USA. In this role, Bhojwani is responsible for overseeing both Allianz Life and Fireman’s Fund® Insurance Company.
Bhojwani joined Allianz Life in 2007 as president and chief executive officer. During his tenure leading the company, Bhojwani drove a significant increase in operating profit, led the development of an industry-leading suitability practice, and significantly improved employee morale, resulting in top workplace awards in 2010 and 2011.
Prior to joining Allianz Life, from 2004 to 2007, Bhojwani was president of the Commercial Business segment at Fireman’s Fund. He achieved significant results with differentiated products and services for small- to mid-sized businesses, including special insurance capabilities for niche businesses such as agribusiness, major motion pictures, excess- and special-risk, and surplus lines.
Bhojwani has held several senior executive roles including president and chief executive officer of Lincoln General Insurance Company, a specialty P&C and program carrier. He also founded Avalon Risk Management, Inc., a logistics-focused insurance broker, underwriting manager, and third-party claims administrator.
Bhojwani earned a Bachelor of Science degree in actuarial science from the University of Illinois and an MBA with dual concentrations in finance and marketing from the University of Chicago.
He currently serves as a director on the boards of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Allina Hospitals & Clinics, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Teach for America Twin Cities, the Insured Retirement Institute (IRI), and the Financial Services Roundtable. In addition, he is an active member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO). In 2008, Senior Market Advisor named Bhojwani one of the top five leaders in the financial services industry.
