It depends on the situation. An RMD payment from an IRA contract can be returned as an indirect rollover. The indirect rollover must satisfy all normal requirements (except potentially the 60-day period). An extension of time has been given for an RMD payment received on or after February 1 and owners will have until July 15 to meet the 60-day requirement. The owner must also meet the one-rollover per 12-month period limitation. If the individual received monthly payments, only one payment is eligible to be rolled back into the IRA contract.
In addition, any federal or state withholding taken from the payment must also be returned with funds from another source.
An RMD payment from a 403(b) contract cannot be rolled over to an Allianz 403(b) contract since these contracts do not accept additional premium, but could be rolled over into an IRA if it meets the other rollover requirements.
An RMD payment from a non-spouse Beneficial/Inherited IRA contract cannot be rolled over to an Allianz IRA or Beneficial/Inherited IRA.
